Welcome to Columbus' center for music instruction for students of all ages and skill levels. Here you will find professional instructors, private and group lessons, the widest variety of instrumental instruction, and programs for all ages, from beginner to advanced.  Lessons take place at the Schwob School of Music, an All-Steinway School, in the RiverCenter building in uptown Columbus. Registration is accepted throughout the semester. Tuition is affordable, and convenient payment plans and scholarships are available. PRIVATE LESSONS AND GROUP CLASSES

We provide high-quality instruction led by talented and experienced instructors for students of all ages and levels. Lessons are available for all major instruments and voice. Registration can be done conveniently by phone. Call for more information or to register. [There is a $25 annual program fee for returning students in fall (at first registration for new students).]

GROUP PIANO FOR YOUNG BEGINNERS

This program is offered to beginners ages 5-8. Students learn to play the piano in a fun environment with students in their own age group. Each student learns the fundamentals of piano playing on on one of 16 full-size keyboards in the Schwob's keyboard lab. This program is a great on its own or as an opportunity for young students to sample the weekly structure of music lessons before beginning private le ssons. Instructor: Robert Wilson.

guitarGROUP GUITAR FOR BEGINNERS

This program is offered to beginners ages 7-12. Students learn to play the guitar in a fun environment with others in their own age group. Classes are taught by professional guitar instructor and experienced teacher, Andrew Wilder. This program is a great on its own or as an opportunity for students to sample the weekly structure of lessons before beginning private study. Each student is required to bring their own guitar to class. Session, 6 weeks. Tuition: $99. Instructor: Andrew Wilder.

WHOLE STEPS: MUSIC CLASSES FOR STUDENTS WITH AUTISM

Every week in a small group setting, students learn piano and note-reading basics in a format that incorporates the use of color, appealing to the visual strengths common to autistic students. Latter portions of the class are spent expressing through singing in solfege with hand signs, and becoming acquainted with classical literature through movement to music. Class size is 5-7 students. Call for more information or to register.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

Private Lessons

The Music Preparatory Division provides high-level instruction through private lessons led by talented and experienced instructors. Lessons are available on all major instruments and voice including piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, tuba, and percussion. Students from beginner to advanced of any age can reach their potential by benefiting from these programs. Private lesson rates are $26/30-minute lesson, $39/45-minute lesson and $52/60-minute lesson. Payment is accepted in full or in monthly installments.

Flute Choir

Flutists age 13 and up will study and perform a wide variety of literature for flute choir. Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings from 6-7:15 pm. Work on flute fundamentals and chamber music skills while having fun with fellow flutists! Tuition: $155

Double Bass Squad with Dr. J

Peter Gunn and all of your "ME TV " favorites along with a nice mix of Beethoven and Bach just for us...the Double Bass Squad...CSU's newest ensemble for double bassists age 13 and up. Dr. J and participants will study and perform a wide variety of literature for double bass choir. Rehearsals take place on Thursdays at 6:00 pm starting September, 1, 2016. Come join us as we explore double bass fundamentals and chamber music skills while having fun with fellow bassists! Instructor: Schwob professor and CSO Principal Bassist, Dr. Jacqueline Pickett. Now accepting members. Tuition: $240 (or $80/80/80). 

Suzuki Program

The Suzuki Method is based on the way in which children naturally learn language. Sinichi Suzuki noticed how miraculous it is that children effortlessly learn their mother tongue. Why can't they learn music in the same way? Suzuki programs are available for both violin and cello, and are directed and taught by licensed Suzuki instructors.

Group Piano for Young Beginners

This program is offered to beginners ages 5-7. Students gain confidence as their keyboard skills grow in a fun environment with students in their own age group. Each student will learn the fundamentals of piano playing on on one of 16 full-size keyboards in the Schwob School of Music's state-of-the-art keyboard lab. This program is a great on its own or as an opportunity for young students to sample the weekly structure of music lessons before beginning private lessons. Semester 6 weeks. Tuition: $99.
