The Great Romantics
Listen and learn with the great composers of the Romantic era. Whether you swoon for Wagner and Brahms, or cheer for Rachmaninoff and Liszt, you will find out why their music sounds just so romantic. We'll take an aural tour of the nineteenth century, its history and social highlights, and find new favorites for everyone. This course is open to all from high school age onward.
Those Tunes in 'Toons
Discover the classical music woven into cartoons of the 20th and 21st centuries. We'll look and listen for familiar and forgotten gems in shorts from the Golden Era, recent wonders and, of course, full-length favorites like Fantasia. You'll learn about the original music and how it is transformed and meshed with animation.
Music Theory Revisited
This short course is intended for music teachers, musicians and those with a music background who seek “a quick refresher without the pressure.” Topics will include a review of roman numeral analysis, various musical forms, and some "guest appearances" in the analysis of works from the modern era. (Course not for credit.)
Dueling Divas and the Legends of Opera
The myth, mystery and magic of the opera world all come to life through video and audio excerpts and through intense, vigorous discussions and demonstrations. Come join in as we lift the veil on out-sized egos, artistic rivalries, famous stage disasters and the unending list of unplanned comic moments that make opera as unpredictable as it is exciting!
